Barking and Dagenham Cinema, NHS Complex and private flats project near completion.

A. A. Security Ltd has been protecting the large development at Axe Street Barking for over 2 years now.  The project itself has been delayed due to COVID-19 and a few other difficulties, but the developers who we are now contracted to directly, are hopeful of completion by the end of this year or early 2024.

Radio communication ensures good communication and safety between two officers.

We began our contract with one of the oldest construction firms in the world, Shapoorji Pallonji. They have been operating since 1865 and are renowned for their work restoring the Taj Mahal on several occasions. This was their first project in the UK and they came to A.A. Security for our reputation, bespoke services and whole security packages.

Now we work with the developers, Lindhill who are a company that deliver exceptional residential and mixed use property developments across London and the home counties.

Officers are often required to guide vehicles onto site and to open gates for visitors.

The project will bring over 170 flats, a cinema, a NHS complex and a series of commercial units to the central hub in the London Borough of Barking, nearby Barking Abbey.

During our tenure at the site, we have thwarted over 15 break-ins. Felons have tried to scale scaffolding, climb over hoarding and enter through weak points in hoarding where gates have been temporarily introduced. The site that has had to cope with limited space for work and has often had to remove and reinstate hoarding to allow safe access.  Part of our remit was to improve an existing CCTV camera provision ensuring it covered the whole perimeter, which has acted as a proven early-warning mechanism.

Due to the extremely high attempts to break-in (probably due to proximity to the high-crime Gascoigne Estate), we have maintained constant communication with local police. We attend local community police meetings and have direct email communication with the local sergeant, with whom we share video surveillance and our incident reports.

Throughout the project we have stemmed pipe bursts, leaks, reported other damage and on several occasions we have even provided emergency hoarding reinstatement after sections had blown down during heavy winds. We have also had to adjust the timings of our work to assist with the needs of our clients; we have done so without penalty.

Officers are responsible for managing and monitoring, biometric entry, CCTV and maintain communication with designated leaders for clients and between our control centre and emergency services.

Our officers have had to upgrade training to become CCTV Operators ensuring that our deployment continues to remain within the confines of the law.  Together, we have ensured that site safety and security have been maintained at an optimum.

This prestigious project has been a long time coming but once complete it will bring much needed living resources and community facilities, to a growing and increasingly prosperous Borough.

Wilson Chowdhry, Director of A.A. Security Ltd, said:

“This Axe Street project has required us to adapt to a number of issues and changes.

“Working with the client we have met their expectations and kept a vulnerable site safe and secure despite a whole host of problems.

“Now that we are nearing completion we are pleased that our efforts have enabled our clients to successfully bring to fruition a valuable development.

“We hope the new commercial and community complex once running serves the people of Barking and Dagenham well.”
